Observations of northeastward flow on a narrow shelf dominated by the Agulhas Current

چکیده

Water column currents and bottom temperature from September 2005 to 2006 across the narrow shelf region off Port Edward on east coast of South Africa, combined with satellite observations, highlighted dominant influence Agulhas Current (AC) circulation. Stronger southwestward flow occurred during austral summer autumn suggesting an intensification shoreward movement AC these seasons. In situ moored observations also showed that extended as far inshore 3.2 km coast. Weak non-significant correlations between wind current, temperature, indicated minimal local forcing current variations responses. A total 11 northeasterly events, ranging 1 15 days, were observed, only 4 events associated passage mesoscale cyclonic eddies along edge AC. The remaining all suggested small-scale movements resulting in enhanced Ekman veering layers further offshore, full water reversals close inshore. Contrary expectation, no clear seasonal variation temperatures was evident, poorly correlated, since both warming cooling southwesterly flows. Substantial short-term fluctuations up °C shoreward/offshore AC, southward propagation eddies. Advection warmer waters around advection upwelled north served complicate observed

a study on insurer solvency by panel data model: the case of iranian insurance market

the aim of this thesis is an approach for assessing insurer’s solvency for iranian insurance companies. we use of economic data with both time series and cross-sectional variation, thus by using the panel data model will survey the insurer solvency.

Observations of Cross-Shelf Flow Driven by Cross-Shelf Winds on the Inner Continental Shelf

Six-yr-long time series of winds, waves, and water velocity from a cabled coastal observatory in 12 m of water reveal the separate dependence of the cross-shelf velocity profile on cross-shelf and along-shelf winds, waves, and tides. During small waves, cross-shelf wind is the dominant mechanism driving the cross-shelf circulation after tides and tidal residual motions are removed. The along-sh...

Current variability on a narrow shelf with large ambient vorticity

[1] Surface and subsurface currents and stratification were observed on and near the narrow shelf off Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in June–August 1999. The Florida Current flowed past, occasionally on the shelf, with speeds at times exceeding 2 m s 1 only 8 km offshore. The typical vorticity associated with the lateral shear of the Florida Current was 4f, where f is the local Coriolis parameter. T...

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...
